Description

Built in 1962 by Samuel Whites of Cowes on the IOW, this 47ft Watson served in Howth, Ireland until 1986, then joined the relief fleet and served at Courtmacsherry Harbour, Galway Bay, Penlee, The Lizard, Appledore and finally Poole Depot launching 212 times, saving 87 lives. She was sold out of service in 1991. Since that time, we're the third owners, and sadly due to time restriction and health the time has come to find her a new home. (The boat's history is available, including original draft drawings and some of the RNLI maintenance logs)

Launched as AMT, ON963. She was renamed by the first owner to a name I can't recall, but then to AMiTy by the previous owners to us.

Her wooden hull is Mahogany over Oak, fixed to Oak bearers/knees & stretchers with a cast Iron keel running the full length of the boat. The substructure is made of Aluminium, and she's powered through the water by two Gardener 5LW's 7.8lt diesel engines.

During our ownership, she has been serviced and anti-fouled each year, which was last done at the end of October 2019. (please see pics)

Batteries. There are two battery banks, each has four 110AH batteries, replaced 2019, and are located in explosive proof enclosures. They are divided into engine and cabin batteries, but will link together/swap around if required. The engine battery bank is kept topped up by solar panels, and the cabin bank by a wind turbine.

Tender. There is an inflatable tender that secures over the stern on davits. There is also a Honda Air Cooled Four stroke outboard for this (BF 2.3D), and plenty of oars, for what they're worth!

Electric. She has shore hookup point/cables and an onboard generator.

Part exchange for something smaller, and more manageable for me, would be considered. (no yachts though!)

Navigation Equipment

Chart table and chart store behind wheel, B&G chart plotter in the dash, GPS 152 Garmin backup GPS, Main Binnacle Compass.

Engine(s)

Gardener 5LW’s 7.8lt 85HP each and the 5.5KW Generator. In the engine room there are also a few RNLI features like wave suppression for the rescue zone, manual and automatic redundancies on both engines. There is also the anchor winch which is driven by the starboard engine. Each engine also has a bilge pump, but due to the total loss oil systems on board, I've always pumped these out with a hand pump and disposed of the dirty water safely.
